How Often Should I Bathe My Baby?

Many babies do not need a bath every day. In fact, bathing too often can sometimes dry out an infant’s sensitive skin. For most babies, bathing a few times per week is enough during the first year, especially before they become more mobile and messy.
Between baths, simple cleaning of the face, hands, neck folds, and diaper area is usually all that is needed. Using warm water, gentle fragrance-free cleansers, and moisturizing after baths can help protect your baby’s skin barrier.
It is common for babies to have some dry skin or mild irritation at times, but persistent redness, cracking, severe dryness, or worsening rashes should be discussed with your provider.
